Hard-hitting batter Immaculate Nakisuyi hit the first six recorded by a teenage Ugandan girl in the recently concluded Uganda Girls' Schools 2014 T20 competition in Kampala.

She walloped the ball with great force to enter the record books alongside Christine Aryemo, to date the only Uganda women's squad member to have scored a century.

Jinja Senior Secondary School, who beat Kololo SS of Kampala in the final, bagged the prize for the fifth time since 2001, surpassing Kololo's 59/9 in last Tuesday's (April 27) game. In earlier rounds Kololo had piled up 155/0 against Masaka, while Busoga High School faced the indignity of being all out for 18 in their quarter-final tie with Nyakasura.

In the semis, Kololo beat previous winners Gayaza High School (2011) while Jinja disposed of Nyakasura.

Kololo went into the final determined to seize the title for the first time, but the result was a repeat of that of four years ago (2010) when Jinja SS prevailed over a foundering Kololo in a low-scoring game.

Meanwhile, the Uganda national women's side has a new team coach in the form of former pugilist Frank Nsubuga, until recently vice-captain of the national men's side. He replaces the successful Davis Turinawe who has been promoted to be the national men's team coach in place of South African Johan Rudolph who had led the side to myriad defeats in the 2015 World Cup qualifiers in New Zealand in January.

Turinawe's women's side had come second only to South Africa - T20 World Cup semi-finalists in Bangladesh last month - in the African women's championships in Dar es Salaam at the end of last year.

Henry Okecho, a former coach with both the men's and women's sides, has been appointed UCA development manager.

Uganda Cricket Association (UCA) is pleased to announce the appointment of the following to key positions in line with the International Cricket Council membership criteria and the UCA Strategic Plan.

The Members appointed by the Board to the various positions are as follows:

Mr. Henry Okecho - Development Manager
This is a new portfolio in the Association. The Development Manager will be in charge of driving the revamped Development Programme in the Country which role had been coordinated by the Chief Executive Officer. All the Regional Development Officers and Coaches will report directly to him.

i. Henry has both played and coached the National Men’s and Women’s Cricket Teams.
ii. He was the Assistant Coach in the just concluded ICC World Cup Qualifiers held in New Zealand in January 2014. He has also managed the National Men’s Team with the most recent assignment being in 2011.
iii. He is also a Level 3 Coach which is the highest level we have in Uganda
iv. He has also been Coach to various age group National Teams such as the Under 17 Boys.

We believe he brings vast experience in this portfolio which will be key in the development of the game in the Country.

Mr. Davis Turinawe - National Men’s Team Coach
Davis has been appointed as the National Men’s Team Coach. His immediate assignments will be the Africa Sixes Challenge in South Africa in September 2014 and the World Cricket League Division 3 tournament in November this year.

i. He is a Level 3 Coach from South Africa
ii. He has been the National Under 19 Cricket Coach as well as the Women’s Coach.
iii. Davis played for Uganda at the Under 19 Level

Mr. Frank Nsubuga-National Women’s Coach

Frank has been appointed as the National Women’s Coach. His immediate assignment will be the Africa Women’s World Cup Qualifiers that will be hosted in Uganda in December 2014.

i. He is a former National Men’s Team player with his most recent assignment coming during the ICC World Cup Qualifiers in New Zealand early this year. He made his debut as a 16 year old in 1996.
ii. He is a qualified Level 2 Coach
iii. He has been involved in handling various age group teams.
iv. He’s immediate assignment will be to ensure that the Ladies National Team qualifies for the World Cup later this year.

We are positive that the members appointed have vast experience.

The UCA Girls Schools Cricket Week Finals came to a end with Jinja SS successfully waving away the conquest from Kololo SS who were looking for their first ever trophy in the Girls Schools Cricket Week.

Now Saidat gets among century-makers

Prolific opener Saigat Kemugisha became the second woman century-maker in a fortnight – and the third of all time – when Charity Trust Fund CC walloped Ndejje SS CC by 285 runs in the Uganda women’s league on Saturday (July 12).

Her score of 108 off 88 balls followed one of 49 against JACC two weeks earlier.

Meanwhile, the previous century-maker, national vice-captain Flavia Laker, followed up with 78 not out (53 balls) in a mammoth Charity total of 319/5 (40 overs). Newcomers Ndejje were all out for 34, the willowy off-spinner Rita Nyangendo returning bowling figures of 5/18.

Joselyn Nakato contributed 62 off 68 balls in Charity’s huge total. Daisy Nalikowe nonetheless bowled her heart out to take 3/66 for Ndejje.

In a key men’s fixture Tornado with 172 (49 overs) kept up the pressure on the table-toppers by beating Charity TF CC by 79 runs at Kyambogo Oval on Sunday (July 13). Tornado 172 (Deus Muhumuza 41, Viraj Patel 3/26); Charity 93 (32.5 overs, Jonathan Sebanja 21, Tembo Zubair 3/11).

Elsewhere (Div 2), KICC beat Patidar, Makerere University defeated Warriors. Kutchi Tigers beat SKLPS and Africa Cricket Club (ACC) crossed the Nile to beat JACC.
